Watch me complete this painting in the workshop!
________________________________________________

GENERAL INFO:

Essentially this is a 4 day workshop spread out over the course of a month. This extra time between sessions allows students time work on their projects and understand the instructions to the fullest extent. It is also much more convenient! A normal "in person" 3 or 4 day workshop presents problems for the students due to time constraints. Often, students do not receive enough personalized instruction and there is no way to remember or reflect on the material.

This workshop will cover all of the aspects of painting a portrait study in the alla prima style. I will be utilizing the same great critique/discussion method that has been successfully used on ClassicalArtOnline for many years. There will be a heavy focus on the fundamentals and students will be taken through each section of the training step by step.

There will be pre-recorded videos that demonstrate each section.
In addition, each week students will receive personal 1 on 1 instruction regarding their work. I will be responding to each student with a personalized video critique. In that video I will critique your work, paint over your work with corel painter, modify your work in photoshop, use internet examples, or utilize any other means that help communicate the concepts effectively. My priority is that each student receives personal attention and understands WHY they are doing what they are doing. General questions will be answered throughout the week (materials, technical help, etc...), but one day a week you will receive in depth critiques.

I will also be providing the reference that all students will use for the workshop. So no need to hire models!

________________________________________________

WEEK BY WEEK BREAKDOWN:

6/1 (Week 1): Proportion - Introduction to methods for obtaining and keeping the painting proportionate. Students will "block in" the painting and receive instruction on problem solving to troubleshoot errors. Learning to maintain simplicity along with accuracy is the key here!

6/8 (Week 2): Value/Color Relationships - Students will indicate the larger value and color structure of the portrait and learn how to simplify what they are seeing. Paint mixing tutorials will be given in this stage as well. The main focus here is on nailing the general values (how light or dark something is) and the colors.

6/15 (Week 3): Big Form Modeling/General Impression - Students will generalize the shadow and light shapes on the portrait and focus on capturing the edges of those shapes accurately. Capturing the big forms allows you to handle the later details much more accurately.

6/22 (Week 4): Finishing the painting
- All of the final subtleties will be captured on the painting. Students will be taught to maintain the earlier value, edge, and color structure while applying details.

6/29 : Final Critiques and Wrap Up! - Students will receive final critiques and instruction on areas of success and areas to improve. The focus here will be on leaving the students with information they can continue to use for future projects.

30 DAY NOTICE POLICY

For various reasons Classical Art Online requires a 30 day notice  for all cancellations.  This is to ensure all students on the waiting list receive fair treatment and also provides the instructors at Classical Art Online with time to fill the student's slot in the training.  All students are handled individually on Classical Art Online and the numbers are kept low to ensure "1 on 1" quality instruction.    Instructors need to have warning and must be notified if a student wishes to leave.  Students that want to terminate their training must give 30 days notice or be responsible for the following month of payment.  (Example:  If a student decides to terminate their training on the 20th of April then they will be billed for the full month of March).  This policy may be enforced at the sole discretion of Classical Art Online.
